From Mrs. Tighe
BRAND NEW PROGRAM: The Minnesota Achieve Scholarship Program is a new scholarship opportunity for high school students based on the rigorous course schedule they pursued during high school. An applicant's family adjusted gross income cannot exceed $75,000. The award is $1200. Applications are available in the counselor's office. A final official high school transcript must be sent after graduation.

NEW FOR SENIORS: If you are apprehensive about your transition to post-secondary higher education, the T.R.I.U.M.P.H. program may be for you. This is a six week class on college prep skills; study skills; and specific academic work in math, writing, and reading. The goal of the class is to help students improve their Accuplacer scores so a student does not have to pay for the remedial courses. In addition, increased knowledge builds confidence and higher esteem. See Mrs. Tighe for further details.

Paid Summer Internship - If you are between the ages of 16-19 and are looking for an opportunity to work at a paid summer internship (8-12 weeks) see Mrs. Tighe ASAP. The banking industry, newspaper industry, and the printing industry (graphic arts and print media) all have summer internship opportunities through the Pohlad Family Foundation.

Some forecasters believe the next war will be about WATER. With that in mind, The National Ground Water Association is working hard to encourage high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors to start looking at ground water professions. Information available in the counselor's office.

1. Under federal law, virtually all men must register with Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. However, the Selective Service System now accepts early submission of registration information by 17-year-old men. The Agency holds their registration information and automatically enters their data into the system when they turn 18. Register at www.sss.gov

2. www.anycollege.com is a helpful website providing college prep and scholarship information. All seniors are invited to go to the site, and register for the $2000 scholarship AnyCollege gives away four times per year. This is a random scholarship drawing.

SCHOLARSHIPS:

Minnesota salon owners are sponsoring $500 scholarships for individuals interested in pursuing a career in cosmetology or barbering. The scholarship can be used at any Minnesota cosmetology or barbering school. May 31st is the deadline.

PROTOCOL APPLIED WHEN COLLEGE/ARMED FORCES REPRESENTATIVES VISIT OUR CAMPUS: Students should carefully select the representatives they wish to speak with, since no student can afford to miss the class time it would take to visit with all the representatives. Advanced notice of visits are printed in the daily announcements and appear on the Cedar Mountain website. Students are to get a pass from Mrs. Tighe or Eileen prior to the day of the visit, and talk to their teacher about missing class. All worked missed must be promptly made up. If there is a test or other major conflict, students will not be released from class. Visiting with a college representative is an important service to students, but the visits should never interfere with classroom activity. For further information please see Mrs. Tighe.

The following colleges will be visiting Cedar Mountain:
