The Blue Crue, formerly known as Student Council, is in its second year at Cedar Mountain.
Any students in grades 7-12 wanting to be part of this organization were required to apply.
Students were asked to describe their leadership skills, reasons for wanting to be on Blue Crue,
and ideas for activities to be sponsored by Blue Crue. After the applications were read,
the Blue Crue members were selected. Students serve for a term of one year. They may choose
to reapply for additional years. One of the first activities was a leadership training
session in the summer. This was led by Craig Hillier, motivational speaker. The new name
was created and goals were developed.
One goal was to promote positive school climate.
The Blue Crue was informed about the 40 Assets that Cedar Mountain is promoting for
all students. Committees have been formed to work on promoting those assets in our school.
Some ideas that are being looked at include paintings or banners for the gym, more murals
on the school walls, more interaction between older and younger students, and more student
involvement in activities which are offered.
Blue Crue members attend school board meetings to learn about what is happening at
Cedar Mountain. They are also given an opportunity to give input on issues which
affect them. The representatives report back to the whole group. Members are asked
to take this information back to their own classes. Part of being on Blue Crue is
learning how to change policies. Students give input through discussion and then talk
to administrators. They also are asked opinions related to issues which become part of
the CM Handbook.
